M-am gândit de mult de-a lungul anilor că există printre noi oameni deosebiți, pe care nu îi cunoaștem îndeajuns, sau pe lângă care trecem de multe ori, în diferite ocazii și nu știm mai nimic despre ei. Sunt oameni, români deosebiți care excelează într-un fel sau altul, care ne fac mândri ca societate, prin curajul lor, prin dăruirea lor, prin munca lor extenuantă, dar mai ales prin ceea ce sunt sau au devenit.
Că până la urmă totul se rezumă la muncă, efort și perseverență pentru a excela într-un domeniul sau altul. Unii se deosebesc prin studii deosebite, prin munca lor deosebită, prin aptitudinile lor dar mai ales prin caracterul lor deosebit. Persoanele acestea sunt printre noi, suntem … NOI.
Oameni din aceștia sunt mulți. Bătrâni și tineri, bărbați sau femei care sunt deosebiți, fiecare în domeniul lor, care poate din timiditate sau modestie nu vor să iasă în evidență. Despre ei nu știm prea multe, preferând să lase faptele lor să îi evidențieze. Nu sunt numai din Portland, cu toate că majoritatea sunt din acest oraș de pe Columbia. Mai aflăm de ei de la unul de la altul sau dintr-o postare prin mediile sociale. Acestea sunt persoane care muncesc din greu pentru a fi ceea ce sunt și nu sunt neapărat dornici să “să iasă în față” sau sau să fie luați în evidență, dar sunt oameni de care familia lor și cei apropiați sunt mândri și de ce nu am fi și noi, familia extinsă a lor, comunitatea română din diaspora, Romanian Times.
Spațiul nu ne-ar permite să îi amintim pe toți, însă am cules câteva exemple, nu neapărat după niște criterii bine definite, ci mai mult pentru un început, pentru a încuraja și pe alții că SE POATE! Prin muncă, perseverență și ajutor divin, se pot atinge noi culmi în viață. Ele sunt câteva din exemplele cu care începem, e doar un început, sperăm să putem să-i cunoaștem pe cât mai mulți din jurul nostru și să fim mândri că suntem români, chiar dacă suntem într-o țară străină. 1. Rebecca Salar is from Portland, Oregon where she enjoys exploring God’s beautiful creation in the Pacific Northwest and serves at Philadelphia Romanian Church. She attended Portland State University for three years to complete pharmacy prerequisites and to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Science. Starting in the Fall, she will be attending Oregon State University College of Pharmacy to earn a four-year Pharmacy. D./ MBA dual degree. Her mission is to use her time as a student to be a light to her peers at school and in the medical field. In the future, Rebecca plans to use her skills and knowledge as a pharmacist to bring medical aid to those in poverty. She believes that God has blessed her generation with opportunities in education so that the love of Christ can be shown to people in all levels of society. Rebecca hopes to point to the special calling God has over the Romanian-American community and to show that no matter what type of education and work we each may do, to use these opportunities to bless others in Christ for His glory.
2. Kristen Turcu graduated from Pacific University with bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies: toxicology and chemistry emphasis. Her dream is to become a pharmacist and in the fall her dream will become a reality. In the fall, she will be attending California Northstate University College of Pharmacy. People may have many techniques in succeeding but her key to success is trusting in God. Like it says in Matthew 19:26 “With God all things are possible.” Without God, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Through her journey, she had an amazing support from her family and friends but ultimately it was God who helped her.
3. Daniela Crișan a absolvit Universitatea OREGON STATE UNIVERSITY cu diploma de Doctor Farmacist. S-a născut în HUNEDOARA, România și a avut doar 4 luni când a emigrat în SUA, Portland OR, împreună cu părinții. “Nu a fost ușor, ani de muncă și sacrificii dar îi Mulțumesc lui Dumnezeu în primul rând că până aici m-a ajutat și a fost cu mine și Mulțumesc familiei mele, mai ales părinților mei Dan și Carmen că m-au sprijinit pentru a-mi urma visul vieții.
4. Claudiu Emmy Catuna born in Renton Washington State, the oldest son of David and Reghina Catuna, grew up in Vancouver Washington until he was 13 years old and than he moved to Folsom California in August 23/2003 with his family. He finished his middle school at Folsom middle school and Folsom High School. He did prerequisites at Ros Rios College in Folsom also and after that he was admitted at UC Berkeley in San Francisco area. He graduated in 2012 with major in Philosophy, took a year off and he was admitted to Gonzaga University School of Law In Summer of 2017 as a Juris Doctor.
5. Carina Nichitean are 9 ani jumatate și este în “swim team” de la 6 ani. A intrat în echipa de înot în Colorado la Foothills, iar după ce s-a mutat în Oregon împreună cu părinții, a fost primită la Tualatin Hills fără nicio problemă. Tualatin Hills este unul dintre cele mai bune cluburi de înot din Oregon. A participat la multe competiții în statul Oregon: Portland, The Dalles, Springfield, McMinville, Astoria, Albany ... la 2 campionate ale statului Oregon. În afară de înot, îi place și muzica, actoria, iubește animalele iar la școală îi place foarte mult matematic.
6. Bianca Campan, a absolvit Universitatea Oregon Health and Science cu BACHELORS of Science and Nursing. S-a născut în Statele Unite unde a crescut alături de sora sa. Îi place tot ce este frumos, dar mai ales muzica și călătoriile. Este cunoscută în familie pentru un caracter integru, cumpătat și o inimă mare.
7. David and Cassandra Roshu, are twins and just graduated middle school. They started playing chess since 1st grade. This year, Cassandra will represent Oregon at the National Girls Chess Tournament, at the end of July in Wisconsin while David will play in the US Open Chess Tournament at the same time. However, they are part of the swim team at Eastside Athletic Center and plan to make varsity now in high school. When they will start 9th grade in September, they will be able to take 11th grade mathematics. They do take geometry over the summer school at Clackamas Web Academy. And, Cassandra writes Slam Poetry.
8. Brendan Dehelean. Was born in Portland, Oregon and attends Philadelphia Romanian Pentecostal Church. Brendan has graduated from Portland State University with a Bachelor in Science. He is grateful for the love and support from God and his family. Brendan is looking forward to extending his education by pursuing a career in optometry.
9. Sergiu Todor, oldest son on Corneliu and Lidia Todor, was born in Cluj-Napoca Romania and came to Portland, Oregon in September of 1994. He went to David Douglas High School and transferred to Penn Foster to obtain his high school diploma. He then went on to Mount Hood Community College to complete his prerequisites after which he transferred to Portland State University and obtained a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry graduating with honors. In 2014 he was accepted in to the joint pharmacy program at Oregon State University/Oregon Health and Science University (OSU/OHSU). In June 2018 he graduated honors with his Decorate of pharmacy degree.
10. Marius Strizu, the creator of the world’s first self-charging luggage has his roots in the Portland Romanian community. The co-inventor of EBolt carry-on luggage, is well known in the Portland Romanian community. As a young adult, Marius was an active member of the Romanian Philadelphia Church and organized activities in the community. Over the years, he was instrumental in helping many elders of the community obtain their American citizenship.
