Statele Unite vor demara de pe data de 2 februarie procesul de retragere din Tratatul
Forţelor Nucleare Intermediare (INF), care va dura şase luni, în urma eşecului celei
mai recente runde de discuţii pe această temă., subsecretar pentru Controlul Armelor şi
Securitate Internaţională în cadrul Departamentului de Stat al SUA, a confirmat intenţia
Washingtonului în acest sens, după încheierea discuţiilor ruso-americane de la Geneva,
calificate de ambele părţi drept un eşec.
SUA susţin că Rusia a dezvoltat şi a instalat un sistem de rachete, 9M729, care încalcă
Tratatul INF, dar Administraţia Vladimir Putin a acuzat în mai multe rânduri că sistemele
balistice instalate de Statele Unite în Europa, inclusiv în România, constituie încălcări ale
acordului.Andrea Thompson a afirmat că în acest moment numai sunt programate discuţii
pe această temă până pe data de 2 februarie, când va expira termenul limită acordat Rusiei
deAdministraţia Trump pentru a se conforma prevederilor acordului.
Oficialul amercican a adăugat că în cazul în care Rusia nu va afişa disponibilitate de a
se conforma acordului până la data respectivă, SUA vor înceta să-şi respecte obligaţiile,
adică Pentagonul va putea cerceta şi dezvolta rachete cu lansare terestră cu rază de acţiune
cuprinsă între 500 şi 5.500 de kilometri.
