a preluat funcția de Comandant Suprem al Forţelor
Aliate în Europa, ”una dintre cele mai dificile şi mai
importante poziţii militare din lume”
Generalul american Tod Wolters a preluat la începutul lunii mai noul Comandant
Suprem al Forţelor Aliate ale NATO în Europa (SACEUR), preluând această funcţie
de la generalul Curtis Scaparrotti, într-o ceremonie ce a avut loc la Mons, sediul
Comandamentului Suprem al Forțelor Aliate din Europa (SHAPE).
Această funcţie este “una dintre cele mai dificile şi mai importante poziţii militare din
lume”, a declarat Secretarul General al NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, în cadrul ceremoniei
de predare a mandatului, transmite Alianța Nord-Atlantică.
Generalul american Tod Wolters, fost pilot de vânătoare și actualul comandant al
forțelor aeriene ale SUA în Europa, a fost numit comandant suprem al ForţelorAliate în
Europa (SACEUR) ca urmare a unei decizii a Consiliului Nord-Atlantic reunit la nivel
de ambasadori în contextul încheierii mandatului generalului Curtis Scaparrotti.
De altfel, Wolters reprezintă prima numire făcută de administrația Donald Trump în
fruntea forțelor NATO, în condițiile în care ultimii doi comandanți au fost numiți de
administrația Obama.
Generalul Wolters a fost comandantul forţelor aeriene ale SUA în Europa, al forţelor
aeriene ale SUA în Africa şi al Comandamentului aerian aliat.
Wolters a devenit astfel al 19-lea comandant suprem al forțelorAlianței Nord-Atlantice,
post strategic inaugurat în 1951 de generalul american Dwight Eisenhower, devenit
ulterior președinte al SUA, și care presupune conducerea operaţiunilor militare ale
NATO şi a planificării militare a operaţiunilor.
Încă de la înființarea NATO, în urmă cu 70 de ani în 1949, poziția de SACEUR a fost
asigurată exclusiv de generali americani. În același timp, poziția de cel mai înalt oficial
civil al Alianței – secretar general – a aparținut în exclusivitate aliaților europeni.
SACEUR este unul dintre cei doi comandanţi strategici ai NATO, alături de SACT –
Comandamentul Suprem Aliat pentru Transformare, structură inaugurată în anul 2002
și a cărui conducere a fost asigurată până în 2009 tot de un general american. Din 2009,
o dată cu revenirea Franței în structurile militare ale NATO, conducerea SACT este
asigurată de un general francez, în prezent Andre Lanata, și el un general al forțelor
aeriene.
