This holiday season was extra special for a young Romanian lady who had the opportunity to visit the states for the first time. Andreea has been in our program for years, and with the support of Firm Foundations Romania, attended and graduated from high school in Brasov. She is currently in her second year of university and also serves as a den mother to our teenage girls who living in the city to attend high school. This past year Heather Zorzi from Raleigh, North Carolina, came to volunteer with FFR with her daughter, Abrie. During the visit, they had the opportunity to meet Andreea and friendships quickly developed. The Zorzis sponsored Andreea’s trip to America to spend the holidays with their family. Heather shares about the experience:

“Andreea arrived wide eyed and exhausted at Raleigh Airport carrying only a tiny carry on for her 2 week visit. After a shower she was off to bed to sleep for what felt like days, as we wanted her to wake up and talk with us! She spent several days shopping, baking Christmas cookies, ice skating, having lunch with Abrie and her friends, seeing movies, and attending church.

We were also able to get her much needed dental care pro bono by our dentist Dr. Mark Wainwright and his staff. They were wonderful, and she recovered quickly from her surgery.

Some guilt sent us on a shopping spree to give Andreea the “pretty woman” treatment at Kohls, purchasing new clothes and shoes for all seasons and a pretty dress for Christmas Eve service. She was very particular about what she wanted as did not want to buy anything that did not fit properly or would not suit her needs in Romania. She was very practical.

Christmas Eve finally arrived! We baked even more Christmas cookies, then dressed for church and took a family photo in front of the tree. After a spectacular Christmas Eve service which was more of a rock concert than worship with an audience of more than 2500 people, we then headed off to hibachi where they cooked right in front of us and the grin on Andreea’s face was infectious! Once home we opened presents from out-of-state friends and family; the Gibsons had sent something sweet for Andreea and my family did not forget her.

Then it was off to bed to wait for Santa to arrive. We all woke up and gathered around the tree to open presents! I just hope Andreea had as much fun as we did!

We are excited that Andreea had this amazing opportunity, and we know that she will always remember it. The experience gave Andreea the chance to see another part of the world, develop new international friendships, and practice her English. Thank you Heather and family for making one of Andreea’s dreams come true!”
