"Cercetați toate lucrurile, si păstrați ce este bun!"

Apostolul Pavel

The year 2024 has been one of meaningful cultural gatherings and celebrations for the Romanian community in Sacramento and beyond. From paying tribute to Romania’s literary giants to raising funds for our cultural festivals, each event has brought us closer together, celebrating our heritage and traditions.

Celebrating Romanian Culture and Eminescu’s Legacy (January 2024)

We kicked off the year with a special celebration of Romanian culture on January 21st  marking two significant milestones: the 174th anniversary of Mihai Eminescu’s birth and the Union of Moldova with Wallachia. This event was a beautiful evening of poetry, music, and dance, where both Romanians and Moldovans gathered to celebrate the work of our national poet. Attendees recited Eminescu’s verses, shared stories, and even joined in the “Hora Unirii” dance, symbolizing unity and pride in our cultural heritage. We are grateful to all those who made this event a success, including our host, Sandu Sarbu, Restaurant Noroc, and several dedicated volunteers.
Spring Picnic (April 2024)

In April, the community came together for a Spring Picnic at Keseberg Park in Roseville. Over 500 participants joined us for a day filled with outdoor activities, sports, and, of course, delicious Romanian food. The event was not just about fun, but also about giving back, as it served as a fundraiser for the Romanian Festival in September. Thanks to the support of local families, volunteers, and businesses, we raised over $3,000 to help organize the Romanian Festival.

From sports competitions to the sale of traditional Romanian snacks like mici and langosi, the picnic offered something for everyone. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing desires to make this an annual tradition.

Pathway to a Healthy Life: Health and Wellness Event (June 2024)

In June, we turned our attention to health and well-being with an informative event, “Pathway to a Healthy Life.” The evening featured experts in nutrition, holistic medicine, and dental health, including Gabriela Sătmaran, Ruxandra Vidu, PhD, and Camelia Cifor, MD. This event gave valuable insights on maintaining a healthy lifestyle and offered practical tips on weight management, the benefits of natural remedies, and holistic approaches to well-being. It was a great opportunity for our community to come together and learn about better health practices.

The Romanian Festival (September 2024)

The highlight of the year for RCCS was the Romanian Festival, held on September 7, 2024 at Royer Park in Roseville. This year marked the 20th anniversary of the Romanian Festival, and it was a wonderful celebration of Romanian culture, food, and traditions. Thousands of people came together to enjoy live performances by the famous Romanian folklore group Cindrelul-Junii Sibiului, which is celebrating its 80th anniversary. Their traditional dances and music wowed the crowd and brought Romanian heritage to life.

Visitors also had the chance to taste delicious Romanian dishes, shop for arts and crafts, and enjoy activities for all ages. The festival was free to attend and offered a great opportunity to experience the richness of Romanian culture. A big thank you to the Sibiu County Council for their support in bringing this incredible performance to the festival and to everyone who attended and helped make this event a success.

And since we are at the end of the year, we wish you happy holidays, a Merry Christmas, and a wonderful New Year filled with health and joy!
